At Canterbury Girls High School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our Leadership Groups

Our student leadership groups, including the Prefect Body, the Student Representative Council (SRC), Student Environmental Ambassadors (SEA), the Talented Athlete Program (TAP), PRIDE Group, and the First Nations Leadership Group, give students a powerful voice within the school. These groups raise awareness and educate the school community on key issues such as sustainability, cultural understanding, inclusivity, and advocacy. Through these opportunities, students become leaders of change, empowering their peers and fostering a school environment of respect, compassion, and active citizenship.

Our extra-curricular programs

Debating and public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh (Duke of Ed) program is a youth development initiative that encourages young people to build skills, engage in physical activities, volunteer, and undertake adventurous journeys.

Dance

We offer a range of junior and senior dance ensembles. With a focus on contemporary dance, an auditioned senior dance company meet weekly and perform throughout the year at events and festivals such as the NSW State Dance Festival. Other opportunities include the K-pop and hip-hop clubs, providing students with diverse opportunities to develop their talent and passion for dance.

Drama

Our school offers both junior and senior drama ensembles, providing students with opportunities to develop their acting skills, express creativity, and participate in performances throughout the year.

Music & Band Program

Our vibrant performing arts program includes a range of music ensembles such as choir, percussion, concert band, chamber ensemble, and a combined band with CBHS and CPS. Students are supported and taught by both our dedicated music staff and external professional musicians, fostering musical talent and collaboration.

Talented Athlete Program (TAP)

Brings together dedicated and high-performing student athletes to further develop their skills, leadership, and passion for sport. This program provides an opportunity for talented athletes to engage in additional training sessions, refine their abilities, and collaborate with like-minded peers.

Prefects

Prefect duties require them to build positive and productive relationships with students, staff and members of the school community, demonstrate effective communication, show initiative and strategic planning and model the school's values and commitment to high expectations and personal best.

Student Representative Council (SRC)

The SRC provide a voice for students, organise, coordinate and participate in a rage of school and community activities, fundraise for charity, liaise between students and staff as well as promoting school spirit and supporting the wider school community.

Leadership Ambassadors

Student Environmental Ambassadors (SEA)

An experience for students with a keen interest in the environment and are interested in participating in whole school initiatives to improve our school environment.

First Nations Leadership Group (FNLG)

The group seeks to develop a community who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and creates a safe place for celebrating aspects of culture, engaging in discussion, and connecting with others.

PRIDE Group

A safe and supportive environment to have meetings and discussion for those who identify as and are allies for the LGBTQI+ community.
